Strain of Origin II

Posted by on Jun 19, 2012 in excitement, music

excitingly, i was invited to be part of feral media’s new strain of origin II compilation. it’s a really high quality mix of australian artists all remixing each other – i remixed underlapper, aheadphonehome remixed me, AFXJIM remixed aheadphonehome, anonymeye remixed AFXJIM and on and on and out popped a really tops collection of tracks.  from the blurb:

The compilation traverses genres with the resulting tracks as varied as the artists themselves. From the pulsing ambience of Broken Chip’s take on Toy Balloon, to Comatone’s assaulting drill n bass reworking of Simo Soo, to Zeal’s all-out indietronic take on Underlapper’s track Himpory.
Elsewhere Restream turns 8-bit maestro Dot.AY’s track into a stomping glitch freak out, while Jonathan Boulet takes us on a ride through desert plains with his spaghetti western reimagining of Brisbane artist Subsea.

The Strain of Origin compilations are a great example of what can be achieved through remote collaboration and are a true testament to the high calibre of music being produced on Australia’s fair shores. This second compilation establishes a precedent for an annual release with new Australian artists and labels to be added along the way.

the compilation is free.  go get it:

I’m a music technology technician at my college and we have got a new mac suite and ableton and we are exploring using visuals in live and in my research VIzzable keeps coming up. I have downloaded it and love it and it will be great for our students to explore the world of audio and video, many for the first time. Just one little problem. We are currently doing a sampling unit and the idea is that the sounds will be made into a drum kit / instrument in live and the aim is that each time a certain sound is triggered a corresponding picture of the original sound is triggered. We would like to be able to have 4 videos triggered at once and would like to rescale the image so that one is top left / one top right / one bottom left and one bottom right but I can’t seem to find a way to rescale the video so they can be triggered separately and not layered as I have seen in all the other videos. I’m hoping that makes sense. Any help gracefully received.

    Cheers Pete

    Hey Pete,
yes, you can do that with the stable version of VIZZable using a combination of rackPlayrs, zoroprs and a 4mixer. However, I’d recommend downloading the unstable version which has a few tiling devices – they’ll simplify the set up significantly.
